Welcome
Edgwarebury Cemetery
Edgwarebury Cemetery is a jointly owned burial ground serving four Jewish communities: the S&P Sephardi Community, West London Synagogue, Liberal Judaism, and Belsize Square Synagogue. The cemetery is managed by the Edgwarebury Joint Burial Board (EJBB), ensuring respectful stewardship and equal representation for all communities.
The cemetery was established under a trust dated 25 July 1972, with burial grounds registered at HM Land Registry. The first burial took place on 14 December 1975 in the West London Synagogue section. In December 2010, additional burial land was acquired on the east side of Clay Lane, with 1.8 acres designated for Belsize Square Synagogue and the remaining land shared equally between the other owning communities.
Our prayer hall (Ohel) was refurbished in 2017 and provides seating for up to 100 people, with additional standing space for approximately 80. The hall is equipped with new windows, a modern internal and external sound system, and a hearing loop. A clearly signposted Kohanim room is located directly behind the prayer hall.
A minibus is available to transport up to eight people who may find it difficult to walk from the prayer hall to the burial grounds. This service is provided for funerals and stone settings, except for sections SE1, SE2, SE3, WL1, and U1, which are located close to the prayer hall.
We understand that visiting a cemetery can be an emotional and challenging experience. The Edgwarebury team is committed to providing a compassionate, supportive, and respectful service to all families and visitors.
